Molly Grace's First Holy Communion

April 29th was a day filled with joy when Molly  Grace received her First Holy Communion!  Having seen five older siblings experience this day, she was so filled with anticipation and excitement!  Father Girotti, rector at our parish, Saint Francis Xavier Cathedral, was so present and offered such wonderful formation to these first communicants throughout the entire school year.  We are so thankful for Father Girotti, Religious Ed Director Connie Demuse, and for the service of Molly Grace's teachers, who helped prepare her for this very special day!

Oh, how I love our beautiful cathedral!!!  Don't these kids look radiant?!  Father Girotti gave his orange homily, as he does for each first communion, hence, the oranges in the children's hands.  It is a beautiful story which illustrates how something tangible can remind us of something invisible.  It is a beautiful reminder of how Jesus is truly present, although not seen, in the Holy Eucharist.

Here's the gang, looking very holy indeed...

We had the Delaney/McKillen gang with us to celebrate the day, minus Moira, who was still in Steubenville, studying for her finals.  Here's Patrick and Anna...

Holy Week

After 40 days of Lent, we have finally come to the Easter Triduum, the holiest time of the liturgical year.  Last night we attended the beautiful Mass with our Bishop at St. Francis Cathedral.

"Leaving aside "my will" for "thy will" is the drama of humanity. But it is not slavery; rather it is an entering into truth and love and goodness" - Pope Benedict XVI   (The full text of the Triduum meditation)

Our family will begin praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet today, a nine day novena celebrating the mercy of God.  It is beautiful and I love that the feast of Divine Mercy comes the Sunday after Easter :)

"On each day of the novena you will bring to My Heart a different group of souls and you will immerse them in this ocean of My mercy... On each day you will beg My Father, on the strength of My passion, for the graces for these souls. By this novena I will grant every possible grace to souls." - Jesus to Saint Faustina

Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help

Our Lady of Fatima, Our Lady of Lourdes, Our Lady of Guadalupe......and now, Our Lady of Good Help!  With only 11 Church approved apparitions sites aournd the world since 1900, we now have one right here in our own backyard.  Very exciting!  It is the first approved apparition site in the United States.  The Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help in Champion, Wisconsin (formally in Robinsonville) has an amazing history.  Click HERE if you are interested in visiting the website.

Here is a beautiful video, explaining much of the history.  OL of Good Help, pray for us!

Confirmation

We had a weekend filled with abundant grace!  Our three oldest (Moira, Eileen and Bridget) as well as Kelly and Kelley's three oldest (Owen, Emmett and Colleen) were confirmed on Sunday at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral by Bishop Ricken.

My parents arrived for the weekend and took the kids bowling on Saturday night to celebrate the event.  They hadn't been bowling in a very long time so we had no stellar scores, but lots of fun!

Here are the six kids with Bishop Ricken.  With their confirmation names, from left to right:  Colleen (Perpetua), Bridget (Rose of Lima), Eileen (Mary Magdaline), Moira (Brigid), Owen (Thomas More) and Emmett (Patrick).

Aidan had his name on the cake as well because he made his First Holy Communion a few weeks ago.

Eileen

I couldn't catch Bridget before she changed out of her confirmation dress : )

It was really a beautiful day.  Afterwards we celebrated with both sets of grandparents and Patrick and Anna.  Also, thank you to Father Eric, Suzy and Kelly who were Moira, Eileen and Bridget's sponsors!

May Crowing

Last Sunday, Aidan participated in the May Crowning event.  He was honored to do so and it gave him another opportunity to get all slickered up in his first communion suit!

Here he is, waiting before mass...

Standing in front of the life-sized statue of Mary (yes, the step stool in the background was needed)...

Father Harry and Aidan

Hail Mary, full of grace.
Our Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb,
Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Famous Seamus!

A few months ago we had the opportunity to be a small part of a wonderful new video put out by The Power of Life. The video gives us a beautiful glimpse into the lives of three holy priest and how they were called to the priesthood. We personally know two of the three priests and are so very thankful for their vocations. Being the Year of the Priesthood I am sure this effort will be just one of many graces sent by God to bless our lives.

As you'll see in the film, there is an adorable little baby boy being baptized, if I do say so myself :). Right about 6:35 into the film, little Famous Seamus makes his debut, along with the rest of our family. (Of course this was a reenactment because Seamus was already officially baptized in July).

Enjoy the film and pass it on! And don't forget to pray for our wonderful priests who serve us so tirelessly. They are awesome!

Wow, It's October!

Not only is October a very beautiful month here in Wisconsin, but did you know it is also both Respect Life month and Down Syndrome Awareness month? And, isn't it even more lovely that October 1st is, as my Catholic friends know, the feast day of our much loved Little Flower, St. Therese of Lisieux? She teaches us how we can love God in our own little ways, as children do. (These little ways are much more difficult to do on a regular basis, but they sure add up to big ways!) I think she is a wonderful patron saint for my little Erin to emulate.

As for Down Syndrome Awareness month, specifically, there are some great sources on the web, and on my sidebar, for learning more. If you have any questions about Down syndrome, or Erin, feel free to ask away and I will be more than happy to answer questions. If I do not know the answer, it would be my pleasure to look it up. Honestly, I love researching and talking about Down syndrome, so I do hope I get as least one question :)

I would just like to bring one issue into greater awareness, and that would be, conveniently, combining the respect life and Down syndrome pieces together. After all, if we cannot respect the right to life of an individual with Down syndrome, there is not much point in offering further awarness. In our country, 90% of parent who receive a prenatal diagnosis abort their child with Down syndrome. There are many factors that play a role in that startling statistic. It is my prayer that ALL life, born and unborn, will be seen as precious, respected and protected. And from a more personal perspective, it is my prayer that those blessed with an extra chromosome will be valued and not singled out for termination simply because of their genetic make-up. That is called eugenics. I pray that other parents will experience the honor and joy that Mike and I have, when parenting a child with special needs. St. Therese of Lisieux, pray for us! Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Unborn, pray for us!

At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” He called a child, whom he put among them, and said, “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever becomes humble like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me. “Take care that you do not despise one of these little ones; for, I tell you, in heaven their angels continually see the face of my Father in heaven. Mt 18:1-5,10
