A First for Potty Training

I have potty trained 6 (and a half) children.  Erin is the half, because she does beautifully under certain circumstances, but has accidents at other times.  We are working on that.  But this post is about our 8th child, dear Seamus.  He is a unique lad.  Yesterday he came running into the room sporting a freshly changed diaper which he changed HIMSELF.  Yep, you heard that right.  He changed the diaper all by himself!  The sticky taps were a little crooked, but otherwise, he was good to go.  (I will note....the "old" diaper was just wet.  Had that not been the case, we would have had a minor disaster on our hands).  Of course I praised him.  Then, I thought, out loud,  " You know your kid is ready for potty training when he changes his own diaper!"  This was followed by Eileen's quick, witty reply, "If he changes his own diaper, who cares if he's potty trained!"   Ha ha.  She cracks me up.  He cracks me up.  Oh, life is funny.

Molly Grace's Strength Training

Molly Grace (showing her bicep muscle to me):  "Mom, look how strong I am!"

Me:  "Wow, you sure are strong!"

Molly Grace:  "Do you want to know how I got so strong?"

Me:  "Sure"

Molly Grace:  "I tie a rope around Erin and Seamus and drag them up into my top bunk"

Oh dear.  Some things are better left unknown.  I think this is one of them!  Thank God for guardian angels :)

Okay...I Get the Hint

It seems I cannot keep enough food in the house.  I make a couple large trips to the grocery store per week, but still, with as busy as life is, it seems we are always running low.  You know how it is....you get down to the eggs, pancakes and soup.  Hmmm. what can I make with noodles and Italian dressing? Ha ha.  Oh, and there are usually frozen pizzas in the downstairs freezer, so you've got that goin' for you....

Recently, I received this letter from my loving children...

The citizens of the Delaney household hereby have cast lots and are willing to drop to their undernourished knees and beg for the smallest morsels of store bought food.  Your choices are:  Put Eileen in driver's ed so she can learn to drive, drop us off at the cousins, so we can eat, or the last choice, which is most approved by the lot casters, is to go to the grocery store and buy the smallest bit of nourishment.  Know that you have full support over choosing any of these choices, but know, also, that it must be done today!

Signed, Aidan, Bridget, Eileen, Seamus, Teresa, Erin and Molly Grace

Oh, they crack me up!  Yes, I did feed my children that day, I promise!

French Toast

Molly Grace:  Mom, you know that French toast?  Well, I can't really taste the French....only the toast. :)

Overheard...

This morning the kids had the playdough out bright and early....

Aidan:  Teresa, do you want the pink?

Teresa:  That's not pink, it's fusha.

Aidan:  I'll have the purple.

Tersea:  Aidan, it's not purple, it's magenta.

Aidan:  Nevermind, I'll just take the blue.

Oh, the differences between girls and boys :)

Time to Go to the Grocery Store

You know you are low on groceries when you overhear this:

Eileen to Bridget: "I'm making potatoes again! I think Mom's trying to teach us about the potato famine".

Well, we are Irish you know. LOL

Little Charmer!

We have this little table inside our foyer that holds many family pictures. Erin has learned to climb up there to grab our framed pictures (she loves looking at pictures!). Yesterday I was sitting on the couch reading to one of the little kids when I heard a crash. She had climbed up and pulled down a picture of Mike and I on our wedding day. It was in a glass frame that, thankfully, did not break. I started towards her, telling her how naughty that was to climb up there. Just as I approached her, she held up the picture, pointed to her mother, and said "Mama". She then, very quickly gave it a big smooch, emphasising the mmmmmmmaaaaaaaaaahhhhh sound!!! This all followed by a cheesy grin, of course. This child has such charm!

Overheard...

I overheard a frustrated middle size child comment on her tired, hungry, whining smaller sized sibling:

"I wish Mom could google a way to get her to stop crying!"

I wish it were that easy :)
